Grade 1 visits cloistered nuns of Carmelite Monastery

Lower & Middle School Trips

First-graders visited the cloistered nuns—and dogs—of the Carmelite Monastery of Our Lady and Saint Therese.

The students met with the nuns across a partition in the visiting room and asked them about monastic life. They also presented the nuns with beautiful hand-written notes, and even got to meet the monastery dogs, Luke and Leia Skywalker.

After visiting, the students went to the chapel to offer prayers and listen to the nuns sing. Finally, they tended to the first-grade garden at the monastery.

Santa Catalina has a longstanding relationship with the monastery, and the nuns were thrilled to welcome students back for the first time since COVID-19.
